Why should you hire me to write your grant?
You should have the utmost confidence in your grant writer as you are entrusting them with the financial wellbeing of your project, mission, or organization. This is a responsibility I don’t take lightly, having worked on both sides of the granting process as a funder and a grant applicant/recipient.
I am continuously working to improve my knowledge and skillset. Here are some of my grant writing qualifications and experiences to date:
- 6 years and 8 months administering and designing economic development grant for creative entrepreneurs in the Book Publishing, Craft & Visual Arts, Commercial Art Gallery, Digital Game, Film & Television, Live Performing Arts and Music sectors at Creative Saskatchewan
- Experience working with CIERA (Creative Industries Economic Results Assessment, Creative BC’s proprietary tool)
- Experience consulting with emerging creative entrepreneurs
- Chaired, co-chaired, or observed dozens of grant program assessment panels
- Assembled assessors for dozens of grant program assessment panels
- Adjudicated awards for organizations such as Atlantic Publishers Marketing Association
- Written and received grants for my own writing and artistic practice
- Ongoing reading and professional development for grant writing
- Professional writing, proofing, and communications acumen gained through a Bachelor of Arts in English and Certificate of Public Relations from the University of Regina
- Book Publishing sector-specific knowledge gained through courses completed at Toronto Metropolitan University
- Co-founding organizer of sector-specific, quarterly meet-ups for Canadian arts funders in the Book Publishing, Craft & Visual Arts, Digital Game, and Live Performing Arts sectors
Grant Search Overview ($270+)
In the decade that I have worked with creative professionals and hobbyists, I have never once met one who preferred to spend their time searching for funding opportunities rather than working on their craft. Hand over the investigative work to me while you focus on the creative work that matters most to you!
What’s in it for you:
- Once you fill out my questionnaire, we’ll have a quick 30 minute phone, video call, or in person consultation to ensure I have a foundational understanding of you, your practice, and what you are seeking funding for.
- 3 hours of my time searching for and consulting with potential funders that may be a fit for you and your project
- A spreadsheet deliverable outlining my funder findings, including helpful information like grant deadlines, opening dates, and any other non-monetary resource recommendations I find that may be of use to your project
- A follow-up 30 min consultation to discuss the findings and next steps
- Lifetime access to my client Slack workspace where I post funding opportunities, related resources, and create networking opportunities
Grant Proofreading & Feedback ($205+)
For some, it is honestly easier to just write their own grants rather than reiterate their project and their goals to a grant writer. Perhaps you are an experienced writer yourself, or feel most comfortable having total control over your funding submissions. I totally understand that! Why fix what’s not broken?
If you are captaining your own grant writing ship and are only really looking for someone to proofread, offer optional feedback, and catch the woopsies you made while over-caffeinated — this may be the option for you.
What’s in it for you:
- Once you fill out my questionnaire, we’ll have a quick 30 minute phone call, video call or in person consultation so that I can get a sense of your project and the areas of concern you have with your funding submissions
- 2 hours of my time reviewing your application and the funder’s guidelines and assessment criteria to flag grammar and spelling errors, content coherency feedback, flag potential ineligibilities that you may wish to clarify with the funder, and general grant writing feedback
- A PDF document containing these notes and comments
- A follow-up 30 minute consultation to discuss feedback
- Lifetime access to my client Slack workspace where I post funding opportunities, related resources, and create networking opportunities
Grant Writing or Grant Final Report Writing (approx. $405+)
This service is for you if writing is not your strong suit. You have the project idea, you have your project materials and plan, you just need someone to put it into words. Or, perhaps you’ve already completed your grant activity and need someone to shine a light on your success.
This service has room for tailoring depending on how hands on you wish to be in the writing process. Rates may increase or decrease based on client involvement.
What’s in it for you (“hands-off” scenario):
- Once you fill out my questionnaire, we’ll have a quick 30 minute phone call, video call or in person consultation so that I can get a sense of your project
- I’ll consult with the funder and begin building your application. Depending on their portal, you may need to be involved to give me permission to write the grant on your behalf
- A quick email check-in mid-way to update on progress and request any materials I need from you, and request your input and feedback thus far
- Writing and revision of application/report
- Final 30 minute consultation with you prior to deadline to ensure you are comfortable with the grant application or report prior to submitting
- Lifetime access to my client Slack workspace where I post funding opportunities, related resources, and create networking opportunities
Grant Writing Group Body Doubling & Feedback Session
Virtual: $100/hour
In-person: $100/hour plus per diem, accommodation (if applicable) & mileage or transportation
Recommended length: 2 hours or more, especially for groups larger than 5 people
As a neurodivergent person, I am oh so aware of the challenges of executive dysfunction and just plain old procrastination. Grant writing isn’t something most people find fun, but it is unfortunately something that is necessary for most creative practices, creative professionals, and non-profit organizations.
This service is a great option for groups of creatives seeking someone to give them structure before a deadline, or organizations looking to have a third party host a grant writing session.
Note: This is NOT an instructional grant writing presentation. This is a supported working space for individuals to work on their own grant applications and receive feedback.
What you provide:
- A physical or virtual space
- Promotion for your event (if applicable)
- Refreshments for your event (if applicable)
What’s in it for you:
- A more cost effective grant writing support option than hiring a grant writer
- Organized writing sprints, sharing round tables, time management tools, and other encouraging activities to keep folks motivated as they work on their grants
- Time for participants to get brief one-to-one feedback from myself and each other
- Take home grant writing tips and tools sheet for all participants
